"The Afterparty" Director of Photography Ross Riege Joins Filmmaker U

Director of Photography Ross Riege recently shot season 2 of the ambitious, genre-mixing series "The Afterparty" for Apple TV+.

This project comes on the heels of the feature "WEIRD: The Al Yankovic Story" starring Daniel Radcliffe and directed by Eric Appel, which received eight 2023 Emmy Awards nominations.

Previous television series Riege lensed include: the 2021 series "Rutherford Falls" for the Peacock Network; and 2020’s "The Walking Dead: World Beyond," for which Riege developed the look for the pilot and shot series episodes. Prior to "The Walking Dead: World Beyond," Riege shot series episodes of ABC’s "Grey’s Anatomy," "The Catch" and "Selfie"; Facebook Watch’s "Queen America," FX’s "You’re the Worst;" and Comedy Central’s "Mash Up."

His features include 2023’s "Chang Can Dunk" for Disney+, directed by Jingyi Shao; as well as 2016’s "Youth in Oregon" directed by Joel David Moore and starring Frank Langella, Billy Crudup, Christina Applegate and Josh Lucas. Riege also shot comedy Me Him Her, and Greg Kohs’ documentary short "Hometown" and full-length documentary "The Great Alone."

Riege’s first major feature The Kings of Summer premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2013 and was picked up and released by CBS Films. Riege’s cinematography earned rave reviews from outlets such as Indiewire and Hitfix; The Hollywood Reporter compared the quality of the filmmaking to that of Terrence Malick.

His portfolio also includes numerous television commercials, including car brands such as Mazda, BMW. He has worked with Rihanna in her collaborations with Samsung, as well as with brands including Wendy’s, Burger King, McDonald’s, Apple,Google, RBC Golf and Beats by Dre.
